EU set to hit Beijing with levies on e-bikes

The European Union is set to impose levies on electric bicycles coming from China, according to a filing in the EU Official Journal issued on Friday, in an effort to stop what the European producers are calling market flooding.

The bicycles will be subject to tariffs ranging from 18.8% to 79.3%, as voted by member states after a proposal was sent by the European Commission.

Producers from Romania, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as the European Bicycle Manufacturers Association praised the decision as it would protect medium and small sized companies, which employ almost 100,000 people.
