Wall Street opens lower as earnings pour in

Major stock market indices in the United States started the session on Thursday in the red as corporate earnings season kicked in. Disappointing earnings from Morgan Stanley pushed stocks lower, while investors continued to keep watch over trade developments and China's economy. Netflix and American Express are set to report their quarterly results after the closing bell.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.43% in the first moments of trading led lower by The Home Depot. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 was down 0.30% as Morgan Stanley dropped nearly 5% as the worst performer following the release of its earnings which revealed lower-than-expected revenue. The Nasdaq 100 fell 0.33%; Western Digital Corporation plunged nearly 7%.
