Palladium reaches record high as demand surges

Palladium traded at a record high level on Thursday at $1,439.03 per ounce after jumping over 5% during the session. The surge was fueled by a deficit in the auto-catalyst metal and strong demand.

The price of palladium rallied over 50% in the last six months, while the metal's value surpassed gold for the first time in over 16 years at the end of last year.

Palladium was up 3.63%, going for $1,392.00 per ounce at 3:07 pm CET, while platinum declined 0.43%, selling for $804.16 per ounce at the same time. Spot gold dropped 0.13% to go for $1,291.32 per ounce at 3:08 om CET, while silver lost 0.48% to change hands for $15.52 per ounce.
