Wall Street trades lower on Trump's new China tariffs

Stocks on Wall Street turned negative on Friday after a report that United States President Donald Trump ordered a new tranche of tariffs on around $200 billion worth of Chinese products, in spite of new bilateral trade talks being in the works on Washington's initiative. Yesterday. Trump hinted at the possibility of further trade barriers against China by tweeting: "We will soon be taking in Billions in Tariffs & making products at home. If we meet, we meet?"

After starting the session with modest gains, the Dow Jones Industrial Index was losing 0.23% at 6:24 pm CET, the same as The S&P 500. The Nasdaq 100 tumbled 0.54% at the same time.

The euro declined 0.50% against the US currency, going for 1.6331 at 6:25 pm CET.
